First Grade

Heather Rohrbacher graduated with a B.A in Liberal Studies from California State University, Fresno in 1998, and received her credential in 2003. She started her teaching career while going through school. Heather taught at her mom’s Preschool for 4 ½ years. After her twins were born, she stayed home for two years. From there, she went on to teach in the elementary school setting. Heather has been teaching for 16 years now. This will be her second year at The Guthrie School and she will be teaching 1st grade. Heather and her family moved here from California at the end of 2015. She started looking for teaching positions right away. When she started researching about The Guthrie School, Heather noticed the school size was very small, which she liked. Heather believes that having a small school environment is definitely an advantage. She knows that she will have more opportunities to spend one on one time with each student. The teachers and the staff really get to know the students and their families and make a relationship. Heather’s passion is teaching the students the foundations for reading.  Children are like sponges and they pick up on concepts quickly; especially when they are taught in a fun, engaging, and exciting way. She loves motivating students and getting them thinking for themselves.  She has been married for 23 years to her husband, Alex. They have three beautiful daughters. Desiree and Savannah are 17 and will be attending their first year in college and their youngest Kylee will be going into the 6th grade. Heather loves traveling with her family, especially to the beach. This summer, she and her husband Desiree and Savannah to Mexico for their Senior trip. They enjoy taking long walks and he is also her workout partner. As a hobby, Heather enjoys looking on Teacher Pay Teachers and Pinterest for new ideas to bring to the classroom. She likes seeing movies, barbecuing, and having company over. They have 2 small dogs, Ariel and Penny.
