Mrs. Hearty earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Missouri with a major in English and minors in Spanish and elementary education. Upon graduation, she taught high-school literature, composition, and rhetoric for five years in St. Louis. Since moving to Dallas, she has taught in the private school sector for more than 20 years and is a strong student advocate, helping children gain self-confidence and instilling in them an appreciation and respect for others.

From 1989 to 2001, Mrs. Hearty taught humanities to 3rd and 4th graders at The Greenhill School while serving as grade level team leader most of those years. She also taught 3rd and 4th grade humanities for two years at The Lamplighter School before moving to Parish Episcopal School in 2003. For the past 10 years, Mrs. Hearty taught 5th grade English and reading at Parish Episcopal School where she developed and implemented a comprehensive reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar curriculum. In addition, she developed a successful summer school keyboarding class, which she has taught more than 20 years at both Parish and The Hockaday School.

Mrs. Hearty raised her family in Plano with her husband, Kevin. They are proud of their son who has served in the army for the last 12 years and has been deployed twice to Afghanistan. He is married with two darling children. Mrs. Hearty’s daughter works at SMU and is busy with a sweet two-year-old who will soon be a big brother to another little boy. Mrs. Hearty enjoys baking, movies, and Texas baseball! Go Rangers!
