A Message From Our Head of School (06/26/20)

Friday, June 26, 2020

Dear Guthrie School Families and Students,

I hope you are all healthy, well, and enjoying your summer breaks.  I am writing to give you an update on The Guthrie School’s plans for reopening. We hope and expect that we will be able to welcome our students back for on-campus instruction on August 25th. We have missed all of you and cannot wait to be learning together in person again.

First and foremost, I want to thank you all for your support, patience, positivity, and perseverance throughout the school year and looking forward to the next year. We learned together that The Guthrie Community is strong and dedicated to supporting one another and our mission. As our students, teachers, and staff leapt into uncharted waters, I was so impressed by their leadership and commitment to maintaining strong relationships within our population and with our curriculum. Spring sprang many surprises this year, not the least of which was the rewarding revelation that our students can rise to unexpected but necessary challenges and continue to grow together.

During the last few weeks of spring and the first few weeks of summer, our team has been actively planning for the fall semester. We want you to know that we intend to be back as scheduled on Tuesday, August 25th, for our eighth excellent year!  We continue to plan and prepare while monitoring the incidence of COVID-19 infection in the region. We are also considering the benefits of a hybrid learning environment. We will continue to evaluate county, state, and federal health guidance, including official decisions about the reopening and closing of campuses.

In response to the current guidance issued by government and health officials, we are planning and preparing to resume on-campus instruction with modifications to promote the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and families. We are developing practices and procedures to support the safe reopening of our campus. From seating arrangements and mask requirements to cleaning products and procedures, we are assessing all possibilities to keep our Owls as safe as possible. While the pandemic persists, in-person learning will feel different for our students, but we will strive to maintain the valuable emotional, social, and academic experience for which The Guthrie School is known.

Even though there are many details to finalize, we are looking forward to seeing everyone again, and I can’t wait to hear about everyone’s stellar summer!

With appreciation,

Jill Guthrie
Head of School

A Letter to Our Families 3/17/20

Dear Guthrie Families,

We understand that everyone is concerned about their student’s academics during this uncertain time, as are we. In addition, we know that elementary and middle school aged students learn best in teacher guided small classes. This is the reason why our advanced academic Summer at Guthrie Program fills up each year. Many students will not have the advantage of in-person teacher guidance for weeks or possibly months. In anticipation of students needing high quality instruction from expert teachers after having been away from school for an extended amount of time, we are offering an additional opportunity to secure your student’s seat now and take advantage of a special early bird rate for Summer at Guthrie. For students who sign up by April 1st, they will receive 12% off tuition of $2000 or more and 10% off tuition of $1000 or more. This is above the normal early bird discount with the goal of giving our families and students assistance as we head into summer. Let our expert staff take on this important responsibility during the summer months.

We are frequently asked what makes our summer program students so successful. The Guthrie School’s unique summer program is designed so that students will get a jump start on the coming school year and keep their minds engaged. Our morning academic program is a teacher guided mini school day of language arts, writing, speaking and math. It is taught by our wonderful Guthrie School teachers, and we keep our classes small to ensure that students receive the attention they need to remain successful in all academic areas.

Afternoons are filled with fun and educational S.T.E.A.M based camps to keep your student interested and engaged in exploration and growth. With a variety of weekly offerings from cooking and acting to Lego robotics and mad scientists, there is something for every student.

Classes fill up quickly so sign up now. Register before April 1st to receive our biggest discount.

If you are unsure about which classes are right for your student this summer, or if you have questions regarding enrollment, we would be more than happy to help. Please give us a call at 972.596.6929. We would love to assist you to ensure that you are choosing the right classes for your student for a successful summer.

Enrolling is easy. You can find our brochure with classes listed by week here. Enrollment forms can be found here. Please fill out an enrollment form for each student. Enrollment forms can be scanned and emailed to Sierra Stieber at Summer@GuthrieSchool.com

Payments can be made over the phone at 972.596. 6929, via check, ACH, or credit card without the need to come in. Our current office hours are Monday through Friday from 9am-4pm.

We look forward to a bright and successful summer filled with learning and fun!
