Lower Elementary

Lower Elementary is comprised of Kindergarten through 2nd Grade and offers a classical curriculum with courses in literature, language arts, mathematics, science, humanities, foreign language, writing, fine arts, critical thinking, and physical education.

Our lower elementary academic programs are developed through the collaboration of our teachers and administration utilizing the Socratic and Harkness Methods. Our curriculum is reviewed annually to ensure it is the highest quality and content available.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten students are five-year olds who are developmentally prepared to benefit academically and socially from teacher-guided group instruction. Kindergarten builds the key concepts introduced in Early Childhood II or Junior Kindergarten.

Key elements of Kindergarten curriculum:
  • Mastery of fine motor development (pencil grip); patterns, puzzles, and spatial training; gross motor development (active play and PE class)
  • Speech development (class play); letter recognition; phonics; sight words; literature comprehension; reading; vocabulary
  • Language Arts (1st Grade Level); Writing (sentences/paragraph plus narratives, short stories, how-to, poetry, and journaling)
  • Social studies and science
  • Art; Music; Foreign Language
  • Ability-based mathematics (1st/2nd grade skills)
