Art

Mrs. Karnuta graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Minors in economics and French. She began her art education in 2002 at Collin College. Mrs. Karnuta has been teaching art at The Guthrie School since it opened in 2014.

She is a working artist and frequently shows her work in the community. She feels art transcends all disciplines. Instruction in the arts allows students a safe place to be creative and explore options. She likes to tell her students art is another name for “creative problem solving.” She celebrates students making unusual choices and using appropriate art language to defend their artistic choices. Her favorite thing about teaching at The Guthrie School is seeing the children produce wonderful artwork of which they are rightfully proud. She also appreciates the high level of support the school provides the arts.

Mrs. Karnuta is currently the Chairperson of the Town of Fairview Public Arts Committee, Head of the St. Jude Catholic Church’s Carnival Art Show, Scenic Designer and Scenic Painter for Lovejoy High School’s annual musical theatre production and a member of the NTPG (North Texas Printmakers Guild).

She and her husband, Dan, are happily married and the parents of two adult children. Mrs. Karnuta and her husband met in college and have lived in four states plus the UK. They are huge dog lovers!

Mrs. Karnuta enjoys making her own art as well as teaching. She sings in her church choir and in fact once sang a solo onstage at the Kennedy Center in DC! She has also been in the same book club for 17 years.
